Founded by ex Rights TV founder and MD Andrew Baker, and award winning animation producer and director Ed Bignell, KidsCave is already developing a range of projects in animation and live action. In addition to Andrew and Ed, the company has Kirsty Bell, Partner at Nyman Libson Paul Accountants, as its chairman, and the company is about to complete a first round of fund raising to allow it to invest in project development immediately.
“Ed and I have known each other since our days working at Granada Kids, and we both felt our complimentary skills would give KidsCave the creative/strategic balance broadcasters now look for”, commented Andrew. “Our aim is to ensure we start the process of raising funding for our projects at a very early stage, so that we can afford to develop projects fully, and then very quickly go into production once we get our key broadcast partners on board”.
“Andrew is keen to write scripts, and I’m happy for him to remain ‘keen’!” jokes Ed, “but these days you do need both a strong creative drive and a keen commercial understanding of the market in order to get a series commissioned that a broadcaster knows will get delivered. Working together we bring these separate skillsets and can ensure we make KidsCave a commercial and creative success”.
“KidsCave is focused on creating projects which are genuinely transmedia” comments Ed, “ as we believe that only by setting out with this in mind at the start of development can you really access the potential available in working across platforms and media seamlessly”.
Andrew and Ed are attending MIPCOM for the first time together as KidsCave this year, and are already in discussions with a number of parties for potential co-productions and co-development.
“We believe that we have a very different approach and the access to funding to make a big impact on the kids market” notes Andrew, “ and I’m looking forward to getting our first project off the ground in the near future!”.
